Bailey and Andrew's lemonade stand raised $100 for WaterPartners. Their donation will bring safe drinking water for life to four people in need.

Andrew and Bailey Cook’s pink lemonade stand was one of 1,000 stands set up by children across the U.S. on Saturday, June 21, as part of Crayons® All Natural Beverage Company’s “Pink Lemonade Brigade.”

Crayons® mailed lemonade stands and 100 cans of its Tickled Pink Lemonade to the first 1,000 children to register online. Each stand benefited the charity of the child’s choice.

Andrew, age nine, and Bailey, age seven, were excited when the stand arrived, and they went right to work decorating it to reflect the WaterPartners cause. A lot of blue paint later, they set up their stand in front of WaterPartners’ office on Weaver Street, in Carrboro, North Carolina.

Their goal: to raise $100 for WaterPartners by asking for $1 for each can of lemonade. And to let people know about the water crisis and the work of WaterPartners.

They chose WaterPartners for a number of reasons.

Bailey

Bailey's WaterPartners sign, shaped like a water drop, helped draw business to their lemonade stand.

“WaterPartners is a charity whose mission kids can understand. They drink water, swim in it, and bathe in it,” explained Rebecca Cook, Andrew and Bailey’s mother. “We’re in a drought where we live, so they understand it; it’s real world.”

Plus, they’d donated to WaterPartners before. “We keep a charity piggy bank in the kitchen,” said Rebecca. “We pick a night each week to eat really cheap and put the money saved in the piggy bank. At the end of the year, we choose charities to donate to, and WaterPartners was one of those charities.”

Andrew and Bailey’s stand opened for business at the same time as the local Farmers’ Market, around 9 a.m. Bailey was the money handler, and Andrew drew out the coldest lemonade cans. Business was brisk!

“Lots of people were on their way somewhere, but told us they’d stop on their way back. They said ‘I promise,’” said Bailey. “And they all came back!”

“People would give us money but didn’t want a drink,” explained Andrew. “And people would give us more than a dollar, but only took one drink.”

Rebecca said her children learned a lot, especially about the generosity of people. When asked if they’d do another stand, they responded “Oh yeah, I’ll do another one”!

The $100 the Cooks raised selling lemonade for one day will bring safe drinking water for life to four children in need.

Thank you to the Cooks and to all of our partners in providing safe water to those in need!
