Something to gather around

But what if you lacked the basic resource of water? At best, family meals are unfulfilling. At worst, families can go unfed.

Around the globe 844 million people lack access to safe water, and more than 750 thousand of them live in Honduras.

While the men in these regions farm, the women and children spend up to six hours of their days collecting needed water from nearby ponds and streams. Though it’s usually unsafe, they have no choice but to consume what is collected, jeopardizing their incomes, health, and what they can bring to the table.

Since 1990,’s work in Honduras has helped to free families from the burden of collecting and consuming unsafe water. Thousands of women living in western Honduras have been able to fund construction of a well or tap nearby, providing easier access to water at home.

With a more convenient source of safe water, now these families gather together around the table to enjoy traditional favorites like warm tortillas, beans, fried plantains and more.

Give water credit for gatherings - bringing people together for sustenance, celebration and giving thanks.
