Ann now has safe water and sanitation at her home in Kenya, which means more time for school.
Thank you for making bright futures possible
Today, Ann goes to school
Where Ann lives in Kenya, the climate is arid and families like hers typically lack access to safe water at home. To get water, Ann was tasked with the chore of walking long distances to collect water from a pond. This took time away from school.
Women and children spend 200 million hours each day collecting water. This takes time away from school.
With a small loan, Ann’s parents were able to install a lasting safe water solution in their home. Today, Ann has the time and health to learn, earn, and create.
Scaling impact in pursuit of safe water and sanitation for all
Removing the barriers between people in need and lasting access to safe water and sanitation is changing lives – 58 million and counting.
Access to safe water gives children time and health for school
Your support is an investment in bright futures
Globally, 771 million people lack access to safe water and 1.7 billion people lack access to a toilet. Children living in poverty around the world spend time collecting water instead of going to school and water-related illnesses often keep them out of school too.
Access to safe water and sanitation is critical to the development of a healthy child and foundational to the education of children around the world. Reductions in time spent collecting water have been found to increase school attendance, especially for girls.
Through our work, we’ve seen the impact. As part of our monitoring and evaluation process, we regularly survey people who have taken out loans for water and sanitation solutions through our work. Survey data shows:
- 27% say their children are able to attend school more often.
- 28% say their children have more time for studying.
Access to safe water and sanitation means kids have the time and health to attend school.
Your gifts help support our work in 11 countries.
From where we work in India and Bangladesh, thank you!
