"Water is truly everything! I don't have the words." – Elivane, from Brazil
Safe water turns challenges into choices for women around the world
Meet Elivane
For many years, the activities of Elivane's days were controlled by the time she spent walking to and from a river to collect the water her family needed. When she was pregnant, she often worried about the physical strain from the walk and that the weight of her water vessel could harm her unborn baby. Elivane wanted safe water at home and the choices she knew would come with it.
27 million people lack access to safe water in Brazil
Our local financial partners that serve Elivane’s rural community in Brazil helped provide Elivane and her husband, Dario, with a small loan to fund the construction of a water tank and the necessary pumps and piping to draw water into the tank from the river and the roof of their home. Now Elivane and Dario can get water for bathing, cooking, laundry and more, all from the water faucets connected to the tank that bring water into their home.
Thanks to your support, she now has a sustainable safe water solution for her and her family.

Mobilizing capital for good: How your donations go further with Water.org
Our motivation to reach more people, faster
Water.org is committed to help bring lasting, affordable safe water and sanitation solutions to more people in poverty, faster. Through our approach, we can maximize the impact of every dollar and reach more people at an increasingly high rate. Based on the capital we’ve helped mobilize and our expenses to date, $1 donated to Water.org results in $17 to help people in need get access to safe water and sanitation. In other words, your $1 helps unlock $17 for water and sanitation solutions for people in need.

Building on progress: Innovating new solutions to expand access to safe water
Scaling solutions and mobilizing more resources in FY25
In FY24, Water.org reached 10.2 million people and mobilized $965 million to help families gain access to lasting water and sanitation solutions. These milestones demonstrate the power of innovative finance and strong partnerships in solving the global water crisis. This past year, we played a key role in Peru’s first blue bond, a $26.3 million investment that expands financing options for families in need of safe water. We also launched WaterConnect, a new initiative that helps fund climate-resilient water and sanitation infrastructure. As we move into FY25, we’re committed to scaling these efforts—deepening partnerships, unlocking new sources of capital, and ensuring that more families can access safe water and sanitation solutions.
