“I feel good. I feel brave," Salma, from Tanzania shared as she explained how she got lasting access to safe water and sanitation for her family and her community.
Health and happiness flow in this Zanzibar home
Meet Salma
Although water was available in Salma’s community in Tanzania, a household connection remained out of reach for her family. Her home lacked sewage and sanitation systems and without them, wastewater collected near homes and contributed to illnesses such as malaria and cholera. Salma understood that lasting access to safe water and sanitation was essential for her family’s health and for the well-being of the entire community.
More than 1 million people die each year from lack of access to safe water and sanitation due to health impacts alone.
Through small loans from our local partner bank, Salma was able to connect her home to the water utility and install a bathroom and sanitation system. The improvements transformed her family’s daily life, improving their health and safety. Proud of what she achieved, Salma shared, “We are happily living in peace in our home now…”
Thank you for unlocking health and hope for millions of families like Salma’s.

Water.org launched Get Blue™
A community to Bring Water Home™ through everyday actions
June 9th marked the official launch date of Get Blue. Get Blue makes it simple for anyone to participate through shopping for exclusive Get Blue product collaborations; engaging with creators, celebrities, and artists; and donating directly to help change lives with safe water.
This month, our founding partners – Gap, Starbucks, Amazon, and Ecolab – are rolling out special products and experiences that turn simple actions and daily rituals into global impact. Check out the media coverage of the launch:
- TODAY Show – On launch day, Water.org co-founders Gary White and Matt Damon introduced Get Blue to the country on TODAY – sharing how everyday actions, from shopping to streaming, can help bring safe water home for millions of families.
- Forbes – Forbes explores the thinking behind Get Blue, including its connection to Bono's Product Red campaign, and explains how Water.org's microfinance model means every dollar raised does more than it appears to – when a loan is repaid, it funds the next family's loan, and the next.
- GQ – In an in-depth conversation, Gary White and Matt Damon trace the journey from Water.org's founding to the creation of WaterCredit, discussing the scale of the global water crisis, the financial model behind the solution, and why Get Blue represents the next chapter in their work.
