Malliga draws water from her new water connection just outside of her house. She took out a loan from Water.org’s partner, Hand in Hand, to pay for the construction and extension of the pipe from the municipal water lines, and her personal connection was installed in January 2012. Before having a water connection in front of her house, Malliga used to have to walk to a street pipe in town and carry the water back each day. She plans to take out another loan from Hand in Hand to construct a toilet as well.
