Water used to be the source of all Sharda’s problems. The long walks with heavy jugs left her sore and tired, the government tariffs made her poorer, and the lengthy queues caused her to quarrel with her neighbors.
She knew she had to do something, but she needed a leg up. That’s where we came in.
By partnering with a local microfinance institution, we were able to offer Sharda and her neighbors small loans of approx. $50 USD each, which was enough to connect them to the pipes already running below their homes.
Now, the women of Sharda’s street greet each other with smiles as they turn on their taps, and share the bounties of gardens made possible by easy access to water.
