On World Water Day, Jeanna Artig, a ninth-grader at Centennial High School, will lug 5 gallons of water everywhere she goes.

“The amount represents the load for many women and young girls in developing nations who spend most of their waking hours fetching water. “They spend their whole day getting water,” she said. “Even then, it’s not entirely sanitary, and that’s for their whole family.” By toting around approximately 40 pounds of water, Jeanna, 15, is raising awareness about water conditions in other nations. She’s also raising money for WaterPartners, an international nonprofit that installs wells and builds clean water projects in developing countries.”
