Decius Claudel, 22, lives in Ennery, Haiti where he and his brother lived with their single mother since he was born. Last year, his mother passed away and he was forced to drop out of high school because he could not afford the school’s fees. He and his brother now live with their uncle.
Hopeful for an opportunity to build his skills and earn money to return to school, Decius signed up for a job as soon as he heard about the opportunity to work with Water.org and PRODEVA, and bring safe water access to his town. Working as a laborer helping with the construction of the water system, he has now earned enough money to pay for his school expenses and to buy food and clothing.
“I am going to school this November,” he said. “I hope this project ends well. I thank PRODEVA’s team and its partner.” Decius’s brother is also working to help build the water point and together they are pooling their funds to help their uncle and take care of each other. The work has been invaluable to them. Now they are excited to return to school, and for their entire town to benefit from their hard work when the water system is turned on.
