Prior to intervention Madduramma could get water from one source, a distant street-corner tap. The tap on the corner was the only source of water for about twenty families. Water was supplied every other day through the main line to the spout and either Muadduramma or her children had to wait for several hours each day to collect it for drinking and cooking. Often times she and her children would be late to work waiting to collect the water. Because they were late, their wages would be deducted.
As with many families in communities where water is limited, Madduramma and her children faced a frustrating cycle of challenges that could only be resolved by having better access to water.
Recently Madduramma was introduced to a WaterCredit officer with Water.org’s partner, Mythri. He helped her and four other families from her community learn more about WaterCredit. The first meeting was conducted in Madduramma’s home to train the families on the loan product and repayments. After understanding how the program works, each family moved forward with taking out a loan to connect water to their homes. After the installation was complete at Madduramma’s home she gladly shared, “Now I am in a very comfortable situation. My children can go to work regularly and arrive on time. With water at the doorstep of our home we are very happy!”
